On Thursday 6th Sept some 19 members and friends took part in the Suffolk Heritage Run, meeting at Flatford Mill, the home of John Constable RA. Here we were given an excellent guided tour which demonstrated the locations used by Constable when creating some of his most famous works of scenes around Flatford. The talk also incorporated some social history and the lineage of the Constables and their connections with Flatford and East Bergholt.
After a lunch the group travelled to Orford for a tour around the Henry II castle built to secure the then important port of Orford from rebellious barons. The tour included a visit to the Orford museum housed in the Great Hall and a trip onto the roof where on clear days Felixstowe docks and Sizewell power station may be seen.
